Join us for Brisbane’s first Timpir African Dinner

We are excited to have the Founder of Timpir, Dr Melanie Baak, visiting Brisbane on Monday 10 July 2023 and have decided to try something a little different from a movie night and will be holding an African dinner to raise much-needed funds. Our schools have recently struggled not only through COVID but have had terrible floods and our classrooms have been damaged. The community are trying their hardest to rebuild the classrooms, and in the meantime, classes continue under the trees. Funds raised will assist in rebuilding and buying much needed blackboards etc., along with paying the teachers’ salaries. A teacher in South Sudan earns $100 per month (that is less than a take-away coffee each day for the month!!).

After the rains

We will be holding our fundraising dinner at Mu’ooz Restaurant (Not-For Profit Restaurant) at West End, founded and managed by Saba who has been kind enough to support Timpir and host our dinner at her Eritrean Restaurant. Saba is well known in Brisbane and has helped more than 270 refugee and migrant women gain vocational training. Saba was the Qld state recipient local hero in 2022 and was one of 10 Australians to be invited to the Queen’s Funeral.

Hi everyone, Timpir are running a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of a school lunch program for the two schools Waramoth and Mabok in South Sudan. Right now there is a severe food shortage and many families are having to go without food. Please consider making a donation to our campaign. Our goal is to raise $15000 to cover the cost of all students lunches over this difficult period to enable them to keep going to school. Join us for an evening of delicious African food at African Village! Ticket covers food and tea with alcohol available for sale on the night. A wine pull will also be available with a range of wines. Please email us at admin@timpir.org if you have any special dietary requirements (i.e. vegetarian or gluten free). All proceeds will support our two schools in South Sudan.

Steps for Schools

Every day across the world thousands of girls miss out on going to school because they have to help their families with daily jobs. In South Sudan, this often entails girls walking to fetch water for their families or walking to fetch firewood so that their families can cook. In South Sudan some boys also miss out on school as they have to walk following the family cattle and goats to find water and make sure that their livestock don’t damage other people’s farms.

Since Timpir has been supporting our two schools in South Sudan, we have seen a significant growth in girls completing primary school, with the same number of boys and girls currently enrolled in Year 8 this year. Our schools are doing wonderful work keeping children at school, but we need your help.

So this June, we are walking in solidarity with all the children who miss out on school everyday because they are walking to help keep their families alive. But through our walking we will also be fundraising to support the Timpir schools who work to keep these children in school.

All of our board members will be stepping for schools and you can join us too. You can raise money individually or set up a team. You can create a personal online fundraising page at https://timpir-s4s-gdg-j943n.raisely.com/ . Just click on the ‘start fundraising’ button and set up your profile. If you would like to participate as a team, you can register your team first and then set up individual pages for each individual in your team. You can share your page through social media and email and your donors can make their tax deductible donations directly online. All money raised online will come direct to Timpir and your donors will receive a receipts for their tax deductible donations. It’s wonderful timing to get people to contribute for their end of financial year tax deductible donations. So get to it, set up your page, get some sponsors and set yourself a challenge of how many steps you’ll walk in June.

We have included two pages that you can print to keep a hard copy record of your number of steps for the month and any donations you receive that you would like to keep track of.

Record your daily steps for June and we will have a prize for the most steps and a prize for the most money raised.

Let’s step together and keep South Sudanese students in schools.

Quiz Night 2019

Volleyball in Wäramoth School

Volleyball Captain

This wonderful student is the captain of the Wäramoth primary school volleyball team. Volleyball is the main sport that girls play at school, with boys playing soccer. The volleyball captain is requesting that Timpir assist the girls of Wäramoth primary school by providing them with balls and a net. Martha

This is Martha, one of last year’s Year 8 candidates, she is now 17 years old. Martha did well in her Year 8 exams and has been able to go on to high school education at boarding school in Aweil.
Martha spoke with Tong, our project manager in South Sudan:
“I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the Timpir supporters for their hard work to join hands and keep our teachers in school. We hope Timpir will grow well.
