Horse and Cart

Thanks to the amazing support of Timpir’s generous donors we were able to raise $3145 for a horse and cart to help the Wäramoth community cart bricks for the school building project. Timpir board member, Garang Kuek, was able to purchase the cart, pictured, during his trip to South Sudan in 2009/2010.

However there was a shortage of horses on the market during his time in Sudan, so one of the community members purchased the horse after Garang’s departure. The horse has been working since that time both carting goods for the school as well as being hired out to community members who want to transport goods to sell at local markets. Through hiring the horse out to community members the horse earns its keep.

Horse and cart in 2012

In February 2012, Timpir board members were able to see both the horse and cart in operation. The horse was in reasonable condition considering the frequent food shortages of the dry season and the tough climate.
The Timpir volunteer group worked with members of the Wäramoth community to load some of the bricks made in 2010 on to the cart for transport to the school.
All of the bricks are now at the school site ready to commence building as soon as funds are available.
